About the Department

The Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine (Nursing Course, Radiological Sciences Course, and Medical Technology Course) started as a four year Professional School in October 2002.

The Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine was founded in April 1971 as the School of Health Sciences for offering three year courses of study for the purpose of training medical workers such as nurses, radiological technologists, and medical technologists.

In April 1978, the Department of Midwifery was added to the school in order to train those who had previously completed nursing school education with a view to making them qualified midwives.

With the remarkable progress of medicine in recent years, these technical branches of medical examination and treatment have gained growing importance, and, as a result, first-rate professional knowledge has become increasingly important.

The aim of the Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine is to equip these medical specialists with advanced professional knowledge, and to guarantee them professional and social status worthy of their important work. The Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine will eventually develop into a center for education and research in these fields for western Japan.
